In support of this mission, we invite qualified applicants for the newly established position of Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life. This position was created as part of an ongoing reorganization and consolidation of areas within Student Affairs related to Leadership and Civic Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and Student Activities, Programming and Operations all reporting to a new Associate Dean for Student Engagement. Student Affairs supports Longwood's mission to prepare citizen leaders by providing educational and co-curricular opportunities designed to challenge and support students as they learn and develop. Founded in 1839, Longwood University is one of the oldest public institutions of ! higher education in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Today, Longw! ood is a coeducational, comprehensive public institution offering 100-plus majors, minors and concentrations to more than 4,800 students. Undergraduate programs include business administration, education and human services, nursing, and the arts and sciences; graduate programs include education, communication sciences and disorders, English and sociology, and an MBA program.
The Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life will work with all members of Student Affairs and the campus community to create an inclusive and transformative learning environment for all students and specifically with the Associate Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life to provide leadership, oversight, and support to the Fraternity and Sorority community as well as training, advisement, programming, and services to the Greek governing bodies. The Assistant Director will interact regularly with campus partners, national offices, alumni, and students, and specifically advise a to-be-d! etermined combination of national sorority and/or fraternity chapters and Greek governing councils. Furthermore, the Assistant Director will provide training and programming that promoted the multicultural competencies of students in their preparation as citizen leaders in a complex global community. The incumbent will also have the unique opportunity to work closely with Four Alpha chapters ? Sigma Sigma Sigma, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Zeta Tau Alpha, and Kappa Delta ? each having over 100 years tradition at Longwood University.
Minimum Qualifications
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Depending upon experience, advise the activities and development of an appropriate combinations of individual fraternity or sorority chapters and Greek governing bodies including the College Panhellenic Council, the National Panhellenic Council, Intrafraternity Council and/or Order of Omega
- Assist with the development and implementation of several key signature leader! ship development retreats, workshops, and programs for chapter and coun! cil advisors, leaders, and members, including but not limited to Greek Summit, Greek Awards, Lip Sync, and Formal Recruitment
- Assist with monitoring and assessment reports related to the approved community standards and the FSL Five-Year Strategic Plan based on traditional indicators of success including data related to service hours, philanthropy, academic progress, retention, new member education, leadership transition, and risk management
- Systematically evaluate program effectiveness and student learning through varied means of outcomes assessment and share results in writing and through presentations with various campus stakeholders
- Develop personal connections and trust with Greek affiliates and leaders through attendance and participation in appropriate social functions and events
- Supervise paraprofessional/graduate staff by ensuring deadlines are met and work completed is of high quality and accurate
- Participate in Univers! ity and Student Affairs retreats, professional development opportunities and meetings, and serve on teams and committees as appointed
- Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the laws, regulations, and policies of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Longwood University, and the Student Engagement unit
- Maintain conduct and decorum consistent with the American College Personnel Association Ethical Principles and Standards
- Some nights and weekends required
- Other duties as assigned
