Public Health Nurse

Provides professional public health nursing services to individuals, families and the community in the Augusta-Staunton Health Department and other health departments in the district as needed. Provides direct nursing services primarily in the communicable disease program, immunizations, and pre-admission screenings but also be knowledgeable and able to function in every public health program area. Performs nursing assessments, health screenings, lab tests, administers/delivers medication and vaccines and assists with communicable disease investigation and management. Provides individual and community health education and serves as a public health representative to the broader community. Independently provides professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes and schools. Performs nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management. Actions performed at this level require licensure as a RN by state code. This position may require travel.
Registered Nurse, Licensed in Virginia. Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Experience in public health nursing; Experience with communicable disease follow up; Experience with administering vaccines for adults and children; bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Must have or be eligible to obtain a VA drivers license and provide own transportation (mileage reimbursement provided). Employee may be designated as essential personnel during emergency events outside of norma l work hours. Twelve-month probationary period is required for all new state employees.
