Inova Alexandria Hospital is Looking For an Experienced RN - Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS)

Job Description :
The Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) conducts record reviews on a defined inpatient population (ex, Medicare acute care) while patients are being treated on nursing units. CDS interacts with physicians, nurses, case managers, quality staff and coders to ensure complete and compliant treating physician documentation to support MS-DRG, APR-DRG, Severity of Illness (SOI) and Risk of Mortality (ROM). Other c! ategories of quality outcome measures will also be evaluated f! or appropriate supporting documentation: Patient Safety Indicators (PSI), Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC) and core measures. Position will include query to support ICD-10 code assignment. The CDS maintains proficiency in use of Clinical Documentation Improvement System and all application software used to code and assign working MS-DRG, APR-DRG, SOI, ROM. The CDS works closely with Coding Operations staff to process all required information on concurrent queries and to assist in any work related to post-discharge (retrospective) queries. The CDS serves as an educational resource for all internal customers related to compliant documentation for DRG revenue assurance, compliance, quality outcomes and ICD10.

Shift :
Full Time Days Monday - Friday

Requirements :
5 years recent acute hospital clinical experience.
BSN required.
Virginia RN License.
ACIDS or CDIP preferred.
Medical/Surgical and Critical Care nursing experi! ence is preferred.
Prior work experience in a hospital documentation improvement program is a plus.
EPIC experience a plus.
Case Management experience a plus.
Quality Management experience a plus.
Proficient with the use of various computer applications and to quickly learn new systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to function as an educator.
