Epidemiologist Sr.

Description: Dept of Health (601) is in need of Epidemiologist Sr. right now, this position will be hold in Virginia. Oversees district-wide epidemiological efforts by serving as the subject matter expert on the assessment, evaluation, and responses to diseases of public health significance including those relating to bioterrorism threats. Focus of responsibility is on epidemiological surveillance and investigation and includes intermediate to long-term planning, program evaluation, policy/procedure development, resource development and communication of time-sensitive data and health information to internal and external partners. Responsibilities also include technical supervision and training of multidisciplinary staff including public health nurses, health educators and environmental health specialists. Assists the District in maintaining compliance with the OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard.
Minimum Qualifications
A comprehensive knowledge of epidemiological surveillance and investigation principles, infection control practices and a strong background in biological sciences. Familiarity with laws, regulations and policies on disease reporting and control. Knowledge and experience in emergency preparedness and response. Demonstrated ability to train and direct staff. Ability to develop and manage databases. Experience with statistical software. Strong oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships. Considerable experience in epidemiology, public health, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Masterâs Degree with major course work in public health, epidemiology or related field preferred. Previous experience working in a local or state health department. Knowledge and/or familiarity with VDH disease surveillance systems. Familiarity with OSHA Respiratory Protection Standards. Ability or experience in conducting community health assessments.
Special Requirements
