POSITION TITLE: Nurse Practitioner (Infectious Diseases Clinic)
JOB CODE: C2009
LEVEL/FLSA: AHP, Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Division of Infectious Diseases
REPORTS TO: Grants Manager, ID Clinic
GENERAL SUMMARY: The incumbent provides primary health care as well as urgent and emergent care to individuals with HIV/AIDS, Non-HIV ID, and Hep C. Responsibilities also include the provision of relevant heal! th care education for these patients, their families and staff! . Performs all tasks expected of a general nurse practitioner in the area of HIV/AIDS, Non-HIV ID, and Hep C continuum of care.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Essential Functions of the Job:Clinical Practice:
Primary care of patients with HIV/AIDS, Non-HIV ID, and Hep C.
 Independently provides routine health care and maintenance including initial and follow-up exams in detail for HIV/AIDS, Non-HIV ID, and Hep C.
 Independent analysis and management of emergency health problems.
 Independent analysis and management of chronic health problems with referral as needed.
 Oversees administration of subcutaneous intravenous drug medications.
 Consults with physicians as needed.
 Guides patients through choice of available treatment options, and assists in implementing preferred option.
 Writes progress notes, performs physical examinations and updates patients' problem status and medications! with documentation.
 Provides consultations for HIV/AIDS, Non-HIV ID, and Hep C care in conjunction with the attending Physician.
Educational Services:
Health education of patients with HIV/AIDS, Non-HIV ID, and Hep C disease and their families.
 Provides information and analysis to patients and families regarding risks, benefits and other aspects of HIV/AIDS, Non-HIV ID, and Hep C.
 Assists ID Clinic staff in improved understanding of individual patients and their specific treatment needs.
Quality:
Collaborates with Clinicians to develop and participate in Quality Performance Measures.
 Assists in clinical quality performance measure development.
 Collects data.
 Interprets data and implements research plans in participation with other clinicians.
 Presents research findings in appropriate forum.
Miscellaneous:
 Participates and contributes to hospital rounds as! appropriate.
 Communicates with other health agencies regarding! comprehensive health needs of HIV/AIDS, Non-HIV ID, and Hep C patients.
 Attends meeting and seminars contributing to professional growth and education and dissemination of relevant information.
 Is involved in on-going quality improvement projects.
Performs other tasks as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):Education:
 Nurse Practitioner Degree
 Licensure to practice in Virginia as an NP
 CPR certification
Experience:
 0-2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner
 Experience in writing care protocols a plus
Knowledge and skills:
 Basic knowledge of and experience utilizing a personal computer
 Basic word processing skills preferred
