DUTIES! :
The Licensed Practical Nurse/Vocational Nurse is a valuable member of the health care team with good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
The LPN/LVN will/must:
Identify and initiate appropriate emergency measures and aid others to function efficiently in emergency situations, such as suicidal or homicidal patients, addiction or withdrawal symptoms from medications and escalating emotional issues with the patient due to mental health issues to include the appropriate documentation.
Demonstrate performance based competencies by providing nursing care to mental health and substance abuse patients, based on age specific needs, which requires knowledge and skills representative of a highly proficient LPN/LVN.
Identifies patients appropriately, interviews, observes and documents patient's objective and subjective information as appropriate in the patient's record.
Dem! onstrate knowledge and skill in the preparation and administration of s! elected psychotropic medications.
Contribute pertinent information to patient care plan, considering the physical, emotional and social factors related.
Contributes to the interdisciplinary team in the development, implementation and evaluation of the patient's treatment plan, promoting patient participation in their plan of care by encouraging independence in a therapeutic environment by fostering self reliance and independence.
Contribute to patient education on diagnosis, medication, side effects, symptoms of depression, PTSD, anxiety, anger management, suicidal ideations, homicidal ideations and MST.
Establish constructive relationships with individual patients and their family members to elicit trust, shared feeling and attitudes, promoting positive relationships, communications and socialization skills.
Anticipate potential safety hazards due to mental health issues, reporting and initiating appropriate actions.
De! monstrate knowledge and skill in the initiation, administration and monitoring of IV therapy per policy and procedure.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30-4 or 8-4:30p, compressed tours may be an option.

Promotion Potential:
The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Physical Requirements: The incumbent may be required to lift 45 pounds or more, walk as much as six hours of an assigned tour of duty, stand for as much as two hours during tour of duty with repeated bending. Vision requirements for both eyes 20/30 or better with color discrimination. The incumben! t must possess sound and logical judgment.

Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate state accrediting agency and/or the National League of Nursing at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave
: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
