Summary: Responsible for delivery of care to patient population of critically ill/injured whose complex and changing needs by use of the nursing process. Ess! ential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1.0 Demonstrates nursing expertise in caring for a specific group of patients with complex and rapidly changing needs by using the nursing process. 1.1 Provides accurate assessment, anticipates potential problems and takes appropriate action, performs appropriate intervention then evaluates and documents accordingly. 1.2 Bases decisions made/actions taken on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care and/or research findings. 1.3 Functions in accordance with approved Flight Medical and Nursing Standards. 1.4 Annually completes mandatory clinical and operational competencies as well as maintains current required certifications established by the hospital, flight program and OEMS. 1.5 Attends and completes in-services and educational offerings established for the flight medical personnel (relating to new equipment, disease process and current therapies). 1.6 Completes e! stablished documentation of flight related activities, (i.e. p! atient log, EMS equipment return, billing form and transportation certification form). 1.7 Provides direction and guidance to paramedics and other health care providers. 2.0 Ensure communication is maintained within the Flight Program and with other agencies/personnel. 2.1 Demonstrates sound interpersonal and professional verbal skills with other health care Team members and the general public during verbal interactions. 2.2 Coordinates care with other health care professionals and demonstrates sound decision making skills in the coordination of care. 2.3 Performs established patient follow-up activities within 72 hours of transport. 2.4 Maintains clear and effective radio communications. 3.0 Participates in activities to provide for the safety of patient, EMS personnel, staff and other healthcare providers. 3.1 Participates in HealthNet Safety and Operations Procedures Program through presentations to hospital personnel, fire departments, EMS agencies, public safety offici! als, industrial sites, etc. 3.2 Maintains a clear aircraft interior (includes disinfecting after transport of patients with known or suspected communicable diseases). 3.3 Cleans flight program and EMS equipment in accordance with established HealthNet Infection Control Policy and hospital guidelines. 3.4 Participates/attends annual department recurrent aircrew safety training. 3.5 Completes annual health inventory, hearing test, TB and immunization screening. 3.6 Participates in other healthcare promotional activities sponsored by the hospital and/or flight program. 4.0 Maintains flight equipment. 4.1 Performs routine and monthly checks on flight program equipment and communicates with Biomedical Engineering to assure equipment is in safe and operation condition. 4.2 Performs routine restocking of aircraft supplies after each transport and maintains established supply inventory. 5.0 Maintains competency by participating in Flight Program and Nursing Department activities. 5! .1 Annually completes mandatory clinical and operational competencies a! s well as maintaining current required certifications established by the hospital, flight program and OEMS. 5.2 Participates in orientation of new flight crewmembers and acts as formal preceptor for nurses and paramedics. 5.3 Attends and participates in monthly educational and operational meetings. 5.4 Assist with patient care in other hospital departments as needed. 5.5 Develops and participates in continuing education activities. 6.0 Participates in Performance Improvement activities as appropriates. 7.0 Other duties/projects as assigned. Position Requirements
- BSN or equivalent combination of training and experience! ⢠ACLS, BTLS, PALS or PEPP, AMLS certified within on year of hire date. ⢠Meet and maintain requirements for State Certification for Flight Nurse (EMSA-FN) ⢠Meet and maintain requirements for Critical Care Transport Registered Nurse (CCT-RN) ⢠Four years nursing experience with two years current continuous experience in critical care or Emergency Department. (Critical Care experience preferred) ⢠Licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of West Virginia. (May not be waived) * Above qualifications may be waived in lieu of significant, relevant experience or accomplishments.
