Under the direction and supervision of the Specialty Coordinator/Registered Nurse performs direct patient c! are and delivers therapeutic interventions in a proficient manner. Assesses the appropriateness of interventions based upon changes in patient acuity. Communicates changes in patient status as appropriate. Duties and responsibilities are performed according to standards outlined in the competency based/evaluation tool. The incumbent in this position will support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public and co-workers.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities (include percentage of time spent on each):
Assesses, interprets, communicates, and documents patient/significant otherâs needs.
Collaborates with the care team in the formation of the patientâs plan of care to achieve desired outcomes for patient/significant others based on physician orders, current assessment findings, diagnostic reports, and standards of care/practice.
! Implements, prioritizes, and communicates safe therapeutic car! e for patient throughout the patientâs perioperative experience.
Prepares OR rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment.
Assists the surgical team during operative procedures.
Follows aseptic technique in opening sterile supplies and sets up for procedure.
Assists in turnover of room between cases.
Drapes patients for surgical procedures.
Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies.
Maintains physicianâs preference cards.
Accepts responsibilities for on-call.
Evaluates the patientâs response to the plan of care and re-prioritizes patientâs goals as necessary.
Collaborates and coordinates patient care with both care team and non-care team members.
Initiates action effective in emergency situations.
Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
Participates in hospital wide infection control plan and quality improvement process.
Assists in QI activities.
Demonstrates effective communi! cation, customer service, and team building skills.
Accepts responsibility for professional growth and development.
Performs any other duties as appropriate, including duties of other care team members.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
Graduate of an approved formal program in operating room technology with 6 months experience preferred OR Licensed Practical Nurse with one year operating room experience (licensed to practice in Virginia required) OR trained Scrub Tech with a minimum of seven (7) years hospital operating room experience.
Successful completion of pre-placement/employment evaluatio n.
