After School Nurse

Location: Hampton Virginia

Description: City of Hampton, VA is in need of After School Nurse right now, this position will be placed in Virginia. More details about this position opportunity kindly read the description below. Performs professional work in providing medical care to therapeutic participants of the Summer Recreation Services Programs and Youth Education and Family Services Programs.

Examples of Duties:

  • Dispenses medication as prescribed by a physician to therapeutic participants. Follows written instructions from participants' physicians and parents/guardians regarding amount of medication and time to be administered. Observes, documents, and reports time dispensed and any observable side effects of medications.
  • Renders first aid to participants in emergency situations, in some cases may accompany the child to the hospital (nurses are not required to routinely transport participants). Provides routine medical attention as needed. Notifies parent and/or physician as warranted.
  • Prepares and maintains medical records on each participant to include emergency contact information, a description of medical condition and related problems, status of condition, and, as necessary, on medication dispensed and medical care rendered.
  • Trains staff on universal precautions and other pertinent subjects. Provides health education materials and information f! or staff and students.
  • Serves as health consultant to! participants, parents, programming staff, and other personnel.
  • Discusses individual physical and possible emotional problems with participants, parents, and programming staff.
  • Shows films and conducts discussions on personal hygiene, dental health, nutrition, and other health topics.
  • Makes informal inspections of program sites for health hazards and recommends corrective measures.
  • Attends staff meetings and conferences as appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Typical Qualifications:
    Licensed by the State of Virginia in Registered Nursing (RN); some previous experience working with disabled children and various medical conditions such as allergies, diabetes, asthma, etc. Must possess current American Red Cross Advanced First Aid and CPR certifications; thorough knowledge of medical practices and procedures; ability to dispense medications; ability to develop and maintain medical records; abi! lity to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and program participants. Must have a valid Virginia driver's license and an acceptable driving record according to the city's criteria. Must successfully complete a criminal and protective services background check.

    Supplemental Information:
    Performs under the direction of the therapeutic recreation program supervisor. Requires considerable contact with therapeutic participants, program counselors, parents, and physician. This is a non-exempt position.
