The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs duties a! ccording to accepted nursing practices necessary to provide the highest quality of patient care under the direction of licensed personnel. The CNA reports to the Team Leader and provides prompt and proper care to assigned residents. The ideal CNA candidate will have completed an approved Geriatric Nursing Assistant Training Program and must be licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, with at least has one year practical experience in the field.
The following is a representative list of the duties and list of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position:
- Gives baths including whirlpool, showers and bed baths.
- Assists with general hygiene including shampoos, nail care, shaving and dressing.
- Performs bed making, occupied and unoccupied.
- Performs skin care activities to include turning every two hours and proper positioning.
- Assists resident with using cane, walker and gait belt. Performs ROM when ! ordered.
- Transfers bed to chair, chair to toilet, cha! ir to walker using proper body mechanics and techniques. Moves immobile residents with assistance and/or use of Hoyer Lift.
- Performs incontinent care to include pericare, bowel and bladder training and toileting. Properly disposes of incontinent products.
- Serves meals, sets up trays, feeds residents and encourages use of adaptive devices when ordered.
- Cares for residents with foley catheters including proper positioning of tubing and drainage bag, emptying of drainage bag and catheter care.
- Performs care of residents with feeding tubes, IV’s and oxygen, including positioning, cleaning near site and observing for complications.
- Takes vital signs to include proper use of glass thermometer, rectal and oral, electronic thermometer, rectal and oral and ear thermometer.
- Practices appropriate infection control to include use of gloves, hand washing and universal precautions.
- Performs proper cleaning and storing of eq! uipment, bedpans and urinals.
- Measures intake and output.
- Maintains care of linen, clean and soiled and care of residents’ clothing, clean and soiled.
- Performs monthly weights as ordered using Hoyer Lift, chair or stand up scales.
- Responds promptly to calls from residents.
- Maintains proper use and care of assistive devices, including hearing aids and glasses.
- Assists with admission and discharge of residents.
- Documents all personal care given at the end of each shift.
- Maintains privacy and confidentiality of residents at all times.
- Reads and interprets care plans and uses approaches established to reach goals.
- Maintains neatness and safety or residents’ environment.
- Assists with transporting residents.
- Participates in mandatory inservices as required.
