Our behavioral health services at LewisGale Hospi! tal Alleghany are expanding, and we invite you to grow with us. This is an opportunity to work alongside trained, professional nursing staff and providers in assisting our 15-bed acute behavioral health unit. We are currently seeking PRN (flexi/as needed) mental health technician for a job that offers flexible scheduling and a patient-focused environment. This is a wonderful opportunity for the experienced mental health technician seeking to work in an acute hospital setting, or someone interested in pursuing a career in mental health or nursing!
Please note: our current needs are for flexible coverage including weekend and holiday rotation. Shift is variable.
SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*
1. Through direct care, observation, and communication with the patient. collects and documents patient admission and shift behavioral and physical clinical data and observations Provides appropriate information to assist RN with admission an! d shift RN assessments.*
2. Performs vital signs, BP'! s and accuchecks. Provides or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living. Assists with treatments or procedures within documented level of competancy.*
3. Provides behavioral health care interventions utilizing the least restrictive interventions.*
4. Provides for the safety of patients, visitors and staff . Completes routine and special safety checks.*
5. Assumes responsibility for completing all mandatory educational, PPD, CPR and CPI requirements within designated time frame and for providing written verification of same for filing.*
6. Actively participates in quality management activities by timely reporting of staff, family, visitor or quality concerns.*
7. Uses the meditech e-mail system to routinely read e-mail messages.*
8. Reports to work as pre-scheduled and on time.*
9. Facilitates and/or assists with patient community, education or activity groups. Documents patient's participation.
1! 0. Provides secretarial duties as assigned.
11. Demonstrates knowledge of, and follows policy/procedure, for all hospital patient safety initiatives.*
12. Provides Department Assistant duties as assigned. Uses the meditech order entry system for all functions utilized in behavioral health including, but not limited to, entering admission data, transfers, discharges, orders for diagnostic testing, accessing results of diagnostic testing and sending messages to other departments. (After X-Training Provided)

Qualifications
Experience:
Previous experience in a behavioral health or mental healthcare setting, preferably in an acute hospital setting. 1-3 years of direct experience assisting adult behavioral health patients. Nursing assistant experience preferred.
Required Skills:
Demonstrates knowledge and competence in delivering basic patient care. Demonstrates professionalism by appearance, actions, self-development initiatives, and customer service. Uses interpersonal skills, which convey a positive and supportive attitude. Demonstrates flexibility with schedule changes or changing job assignments to meet patient care needs. Possesses excellent language and communication skills. Demonstrates a teamwork approach to work. Handles high stress situations. Participates in emergency or cris! is situations. Assists patients with ADL's as needed.
Education/Licensure:
American Heart Association BLS certification required. Prior experience as a nursing assistant, MHT, or patient care tech preferred.
