Essential Functions
Performs personal care activities that assist the client with activities of daily living which include (but are not limited to):
Personal hygiene (assisting to bathroom or in using bedpan, bathing, care of mouth, skin and hair)
Ambulation
Feeding
Dressing
Prepares meals and snacks according to instructions.
Performs patient-specific activities that are taught by a nurse. These could include (but are not limited to):
Assisting with the change of ostomy appliances
Reinforcement of dressings
Assisting with prescribed range of motion exercises
Measuring and preparing special diets
Taking vital signs
Application of an external catheter
Performs companionship and homemaking activities which include (but are not limited to): vacuuming, dusting, sweeping or mopping floors, doing dishes, changing bed linens, doing laundry and cl! eaning bathrooms.
Qualifications
High school! graduate or G.E.D. certificate preferred.
Must be 18 years of age.
Completion of a Competency Evaluation that meets Virginia law requirements for home care agencies (score of 80% or higher).
Current CPR Certificate is recommended.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English as needed for the job.
Possess a valid driverâs license and have unrestricted use of an insured automobile .
Successful completion of a nursing education program preparing for registered or practical nurse licensure,
or successful completion of a nurse aide education program approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing,
or certification as a nurse aide (CNA) issued by the Virginia Board of Nursing,
or successful enrollment in a nursing education program preparing for registered or practical nurse licensure and current completion of at least one nursing course that includes clinical experience involving direct client! care,
or satisfactory passing of a competency evaluation program that meets Virginia licensing regulations for home care organizations found at 12VAC5-381-290(5) (HHA),
or satisfactory completion of training using the "Personal Care Aide Training Curriculum" (PCA) 2003 edition of the Department of Medical Assistance Services.
