The Prince William Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center (ADC) is a well-established agency in Prince William County, VA. We provide a safe and secure environment ! for the staff and inmates while protecting the residents of Prince William County. In addition, the ADC has four (4) facilities within the County with varying custody levels. The Central, Main, Modular and Iron Buildings are centrally located in Manassas, VA. The ADC also provides a variety of positions for sworn and civilian staff. Sworn positions range from Jail Officer to Superintendent. The ADC also has sworn specialty positions in its Transportation, Classification, ICE (287g) Departments etc. Civilian positions range from administrative, accounting, Jail and Records Tech, Information Technology, Correctional Health Assistants LPN/EMT, Assistant Nursing Supervisors (RN), Food Services etc. to Finance Director.
The ADC is currently looking for a career-minded mental health professional who will provide assessments and evaluations for the inmate population. SCHEDULE: Part - Time twenty (20) hours per week. Two to three day work weeks, 2:00p - 10p.

The statements in this class specification are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by incumbent(s) assigned to this classification. GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs difficult professional work designed to provide a range of mental health services through evaluation and assessment. Work involves assessment and crisis intervention; individual and group therapy; referrals/recommendations for medication and/or hospitalization; and referrals for follow-up treatment following release.
Work is performed independently within established policies, procedures and professional guidelines. Supervision may be provided for students and/or volunteers.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Conducts screening interviews; makes initial diagnosis and treatment recommendations;
Provides on-going training and consultation to staff regarding management of mentally ill, mentally retarded and emotionally disturbed inmates housed in the Adult Detention Center;
Develops and implements risk management pl! ans;
Writes treatment plans and maintains confidential records acco! rding to policies and procedures;
Prepares written reports for management review and utilization;
Attends and participates in staff meetings and professional development activities;
Provides evaluation and assessment of mental and emotional status by inmate viewing inmates;
Observes behavior of inmates to establish mental and emotional health status;
Gathers information from other sources (i.e. family, friends, agency, staff, other professionals) to determine emotional status;
Provides crisis intervention and assessment for high risk inmates;
Diagnoses cases of mental illness through interviews, observing present symptoms and behavior; make recommendations and referrals;
Interviews and observes symptoms of inmates behavior and diagnoses cases of mental illness, high risk suicides and other dysfunctional behavior;
Determines appropriate treatment for inmates and follow-up reports;
Assists in determining appropriate housing based on sym! ptoms of mental illness, high risk suicidal and other psychological factors;
Participates is sessions with Jail Captains for review, discussion and recommendations;
Prepares monthly statistical reports;
Serves as liaison for the Adult Detention Center in clinical review with the Community Service Board/Emergency Services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the philosophy, objectives, practices and techniques of clinical assessment and treatment, crisis intervention and case management; thorough knowledge of principles and practices of evaluation/assessment of inmates; thorough knowledge of diagnostic and treatment of psychiatric disorders, crisis intervention techniques; thorough knowledge of substance abuse issues; thorough knowledge of inmate population, i.e., awareness of probable manipulation; thorough knowledge of individual and group counseling techniques; ability to make assessments and select and implement appropri! ate treatment; ability to conduct clinical interviews with inmates with! multiple problems; ability to assess inmates risk to self and others; ability to make objective clinical judgment; ability to plan assignments for students and/or volunteers; ability to maintain effective working relationships with inmates, their families, co-workers and other professionals; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to prepare and maintain clinical records and reports according to agency’s policies and procedures; ability to implement techniques and methods for intervening in varying clinical situations.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in psychology, social work, counseling or a related behavioral science field; and 2-3 years experience of post graduate experience in the delivery of human services in a specific assigned program; and 1-2 years clinical experience in diagnosis and treatment; preferably in an Adult Detention Center.
Special Requirements:
Must have a valid Virginia’s driver’s license with no more than five (5) demerit points;
Must maintain a telephone in residence for emergency contact;
Must reside in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
Must be a citizen of the United States;
Successful completion of polygraph examination;
Successful completion of required physical examination;
Work is performed in an inherently stressful environment and involves risk to personal safety with possible exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
