Job Goal: To provide a comprehensive developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, personal/social development of all
students at the school. The counselor provides activities to
meet the needs of the students, consults with teachers, staff and parents to enhance their effectiveness in helping students, and provides support to other elementary educational programs.

Responsibilities:
1. Deliver the school counseling core curriculum in collaboration with classroom teachers and other appropriate professionals.
2. Guide and counsel groups and individual students through the development of academic and career plans.
3. Provide responsive services through individual and group
counseling.
4. Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding the academic and personal/ social needs of students.
5. Recommend students to appropriate community resources in consultation with their ! parents.
6. Provide support activities which contribute to! the effective operation of the school.
7. Organize and evaluate the school counseling program.
8. Pursue professional growth.

Key Duties:
1. Deliver the school counseling core curriculum in collaboration with classroom teachers and other appropriate professionals. The curriculum is delivered through such strategies as classroom instruction, interdisciplinary curriculum development, group activities, and parent workshops and instruction.
2. Guide and counsel groups and individual students through the development of academic and career plans: Provide orientation activities for students new to the
school; participate in orientation programs for incoming students and their parents; assist students in the transition from grade level to grade level and school to school; consult with students and their parents about test results and their implications for educational planning; provide resources and information to assist in career awareness and ! career exploration
3. Provide responsive services through individual and group counseling. Conduct activities to meet students' immediate needs and concerns such as peer pressure, grief/loss, conflict resolution, motivation/achievement, personal/family
relationships, depression/suicide, substance abuse and dropout prevention.
4. Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding the academic and personal/social needs of students. Participate in appropriate school meetings; conduct inservice programs for faculty; conduct and facilitate conferences with teachers, students, and parents; conduct or provide opportunities for parent education programs; assist families with school related concerns.
5. Recommend students to appropriate community agencies in consultation with their parents. Consult and coordinate with community agencies, school psychologists, nurses, administrators and community-based psychologists, service
agencies and physicians.
6. Provide! support activities which contribute to the effective operation of thec! school. Establish effective liaisons with all grade levels; act as an advocate for
students as appropriate in conjunction with other staff; assist other school staff in the placement of students with special needs in appropriate programs.
7. Organize and evaluate the school counseling program. Conduct an annual program assessment to review and modify the school counseling program.
8. Pursue professional growth. Attend state and local staff development programs; professional journals; attend relevant workshops and conferences sponsored
by professional organizations.
