Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide training and/or direction as applicable to supporting Government employees (i.e. hospital corpsmen, technicians, medical student! s, and resident physicians) assigned to HCW during the perform! ance of clinical procedures. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocol.

Perform necessary administrative duties that include maintaining statistical records of clinical workload, participating in education programs, and participating in clinical staff quality assurance functions.

Participate in meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems exist.

Participate in clinical staff quality assurance functions and clinic Performance Improvement/Risk Management Programs as prescribed by the Commander.

Attend command orientation for contract nursing staff. Orientations include initial training requirements (e.g. fire, safety, infection control, and family advocacy) and information systems orientation (including the Composite Health Care System (CHCS), ! Armed Forces health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), and the Ambulatory Data Module (ADM), S3 Surgical Scheduling System). The Government reserves the right to adjust orientation schedules to meet mission and workload requirements.

Clinic orientation for the health care worker shall take place during regularly scheduled shifts immediately following the commencement of services.

Annual renewal of command directed training requirements including but not limited to: customer relations, disaster preparedness training, sexual harassment, family advocacy, and infection control and blood borne pathogens.

Possess and maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers; American Heart Association Health care Provider course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) for the Professional Rescuer; or an equivalent MTF course.

Perform necessary administrative duties ! that include maintaining statistical records of the HCW's workload, ope! rate and manipulate automated systems such as the Composite Health Care System (CHCS) and the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), participating in clinical staff Performance Improvement (PI) and Risk Management (RM) functions as prescribed by the commander.

Perform administrative duties as directed by supervisor(s) including but not limited to reproducing medical or educational materials, assisting with mailings and phone reminders, preparing documents, and other support functions.

Maintain patient medical records, logs, and unit records

Non-Essential Duties

Duties shall be performed in the setting of an outpatient clinic. Perform all clinical duties in a collaborative manner and manage patients in accordance with established guidelines and standards of care and under the supervision of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, and/or physician.

Provide appropriate guidance regarding preventive health m! easures, health maintenance, healthy lifestyle choices, and self-care skills through education and counseling.

Schedule patients for clinic appointments and classes. Sort and refer patient telephone calls and walk-in complaints to an appropriate level of care and in an appropriate time-frame according to clinic established policies, procedures, and protocols.

Maintain various clinical databases as directed.

Verify medical records are available for daily scheduled patients.

Sort, prioritize, and appoint all consults to according to established protocol within clinic.

Serve as an initial point of contact for all patients calling and coming to the Clinic for service.

Schedules patients, takes phone calls, and performs basic needs assessment (including but not limited to physical assessment) for patients walking in to the clinic without appointment before consulting with an RN, NP, or MD for disposition.

Provide and! document basic health education to patients and families.

Per! form, record, and report results for a full range of diagnostic support duties including but not limited to vital signs assessment, specimen collection (to include venipuncture, finger stick blood glucose measurement, urine, sputum, and stool), and procurement of EKG tracings, as requested by the clinic staff. Label, transport, and follow-up on results appropriately. Alert medical provider to conditions which deviate from expected findings.

Assist the Clinic staff in a variety of diagnostic procedures and examinations by preparing, positioning and monitoring patients, and setting out and handling instruments and equipment. HCW must be able to perform procedures under sterile technique when applicable.

Escort patients to other areas to include radiology, pharmacy, and other clinics.

Ensure accurate medication is administered in correct form and dosage to the proper patient as directed by the physician and nurse practitioner. Maintain records of nur! sing care, dose and time of medication administered, and indicate if the medication was not administered and the reason.

Provide medication instruction to patients. Describe medication side effects. Provide patient education and instruction on use of medical devices, and other durable medical equipment.

Provide an orderly, clean and safe environment for patients and staff. Responsible for stocking and ordering supplies for the examination rooms, arranging for sterilization of surgical instruments, and re-stocking of instruments and supplies.

Assist in Cardiac Rehab with duties to include, but not limited to: taking vital signs, monitoring rhythms, monitoring patients during exercise and recovery, patient teaching, cardiac rehab patient intake and exit interviews. Documenting rehab sessions in Scott Care, AHLTA, and other electronic medical systems. Assisting with the general cleaning of exercise equipment and notifying appropriate departments of e! quipment regarding maintenance or repair.

Licensure: Valid, unrestricted, LPN/LVN license at least 1 state, territory or commonwealth of the US.

Certification: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Life Support as required by contracted MTF

Experience: continuously employed in the practice of LPN/LVN for 1 year prior to start of work at the MTF. Clinic experience is desirable
