For complete informations about this vacancy opportunity kindly read the description below. The Substitute Preschool Teacher will work under the guidance of the Lead Preschool Teachers.! The substitute teacher will work on a as needed/substitute basis and will provide materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in active play. The substitute teacher will organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts etc. He/She may be responsible to prepare materials and classrooms for class activities and conduct class activities in a safe, organized, and productive manner. The Substitute Teacher will work alongside the Assistant Teachers. The following is a representative, but not all inclusive, list of duties and responsibilities associated with this position:
-- Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, developmentally appropriate, and social needs of the children in the program
-- Provide safe, creative, appropriate play opportunities for the children
-- Promote learning through play -- Provide adequate equipment and activities
-- Ensure f! acility equipment is clean, well maintained, and in safe condition at all times
-- Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities
-- Provide day-to-day administration and record keeping
-- Administer first aid as required
-- Collaborate with parents, informing them about the school activities and exchanging information about the children's progress
-- Assist in establishing policies and procedures including acceptable disciplinary policies
-- Be familiar with, and practice, emergency procedures
-- Follow policies and procedures, including behavior management, child protection, equal opportunity, and Health & Safety
-- Maintain knowledge of and work within Virginia Department of Social Services licensing standards for Licensed Child Day Centers
In addition to the above, the ideal candidate will qualify as a Lead Teacher as required by the VDSS standards for Licensed Child Day Centers. To qualify as a Lead Teacher candidates must b! e at least 18 years of age, have fulfilled a high school program or the equivalent, and meet ONE of the following requirements:
1) Hold an endorsement or bachelorâs degree in a child-related filed such as, but not limited to, elementary education, nursing, or recreation, from a college or university
2) Have three months of programmatic experience and at least one of the following education backgrounds:
a) A one year early childhood certificate from a college or university that consists of at least 30 semester hours
b) A child development credential by an organization listed in 63.2-1738 of the Code of Virginia
c) A teaching diploma from an internationally or nationally recognized Montessori organization
3) Have six months of programmatic experience AND 24 hours of training related to the care of children, including but not limited to: Child development, playground safety, health and safety issues, and preventing and reporting child abuse and neglec! t
